General Policies

a. Mandate

The Science education institute is a service agency of the Department of Science and Technology mandated to:

  • Develop a scientifically and technologically literate citizenry, and
  • Accelerate the development of S & T human resources needed for socio-economic development.

b. Undergraduate Scholarship Program

To fulfill these mandates, SEI undertakes, among others, undergraduate scholarship programs:

  • DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scientific Manpower Development Program (Program B)
  • RA 7687 Science and Technology Scholarships (Program A)
  • Science Teaching Scholarship Programs
  • Junior Level Assistance Program (JLAP)

c. Program Objectives

The S & T scholarship programs aim to:

  • Stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science, and
  • Ensure a steady, adequate supply of qualified S & T human resources which can steer the country towards national progress.

d. Duration of Scholarship

The scholarship shall be for a duration equivalent to the prescribed period of the course leading to a bachelor of science degree/diploma in technology unless earlier terminated due to failure to comply with the terms of the scholarship agreement.

e. Study Placement

  • Program A: University of the Philippines or any state university/college or private school with curriculum on science and technology duly approved by DECS before June 1994, otherwise should be duly recognized by CHED/TESDA.
  • Program B/JLAP: Identified university/school with priority courses.

f. Enjoyment of any other Scholarship Award

You can not enjoy any other scholarship award that can interfere with your contractual obligation under S & T scholarship.

g. Dual Citizenship

With dual citizenship: Execute an undertaking that you will elect Filipino citizenship upon reaching age of majority. This document will be made an integral part of the scholarship agreement.

h. Scholarship Privileges

h.1. During the regular academic year

  • School Fees – Tuition and other school fess based on the Statement of Account/Bill/Official Receipt but not to exceed P4,000.00/semester/term inclusive of consumables for the technician scholars.
  • Book Allowance – For prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies to be released as outright grant at P1,500.00/semester.
  • Transportation Expenses – One actual economy round trip from permanent residence to place of study. Original tickets must be submitted for the reimbursement.
  • Monthly Living Allowance – for the 10/11-month duration of an academic year at the following rates per month:

h.2. During the summer term

  • Tuition and other School Fees not to exceed P1,500.00
  • Book Allowance not to exceed P500.00 on reimbursement basis. You must submit original receipts to claim this.
  • Monthly Living Allowance for 2 months
